Director’s Statement

This film is loosely inspired by a true family story. One that I always found darkly comic and kind of twisted. Something Sam Shepard might have written into one of his plays. This short allowed me to explore a more bittersweet tone and something more rhythmic than I’ve done before, but all packaged into a small-town setting, on the day of a significant moment in space history. We were inverting the emphasis: bringing the small, personal drama front and center, and pushing the big headline, news story into the background.
